So, this is my blog for LBS 850, Emerging Technologies for Libraries. . . for the semester.
The readings for this week, Time's Person of the Year: You (Grossman), and School Library 2.0 (Harris) were both written in 2006, and both speak about the technical world that is to come. They mention blogs, podcasts, mashups. . . everything I didn't know about in 2006 (but I do now). Grossman speaks of the digital democracy -- Harris mentions the digital re-shift of the school library -- they are both somewhat prophetic in their predictions, though.

rating: 4 of 5 starsWhen a fifth grader finds out he was cheated out of a valuable Babe Ruth baseball card, he decides he will show the adults that kids won't lie down and take it. He assembles an unlikely team of classmates to steal the card back, and pulls off the biggest heist his little town has ever seen.
Great themes for kids: self-reliance, planning, teamwork. Wonderful story, with clear and simple vocabulary, easy enough for 4th grade. Also has a moral message at the end, thieves don't profit.
