After checking out Shelfari, Library Thing, and Good Reads, my choice is Good Reads. I had heard of Library Thing before, and the idea of cataloging my own collection sounded great -- how many times have I loaned something and never got it back because I forgot who I loaned it to? But it looked cumbersome and I wondered "what is the purpose of this site? Just to catalog?"
Shelfari looked like a good way to blog and share, strictly book lovers involved. The downside here is that I did not find a way to isolate/distinguish children's books. It's great that some people are reading adult fiction, but I'm not, I read only kid's books. Being a Reading Teacher and Librarian, it's my job to stay current on latest reads. I need a way to filter out adult titles and discussions.
So then I found Good Reads last, and I immediately liked the bookshelf feature, so I can separate the children's books I have read from adult books (yes, I have read a few of these). I found the book reviews very handy, and I enjoyed reading several reviews on the book I am currently reading. I did not find any classmates on Good Reads, though, so my network has 0 friends.
