Podcast Conundrum

Just when all was going well with the multimedia assignment (annotated list), last night I hit a wall and actually turned my computer off I was so frustrated.

After compiling some nice videos for two elementary subjects (history, library -- thanks for the warning that elementary subjects are harder to find), I continued to look for podcasts.  I had checked out iTunes before, and gave up, but then after advice from classmates, I searched again more thoroughly.  Then I checked Podcast Alley, this time being careful not to ditch too soon -- I was thorough.  Then SwitchPod, VoiceThread, nothing.

Last night I felt stupid for trying to do a 4th grade topic, Alamo Mission, part of regions of the U.S.   Way too narrow a subject.  It's an interesting place, I've been there, and it is a U.S. symbol of independence much like the Liberty Bell.  This type of symbol relates to curriculum for 4th as they study regions and national parks.  Why didn't I choose an easier topic?

The podcasts are done, although I'm not completely happy with them.  I decided to give up on content and just search for music --  I found some wonderful traditional Mexican music, with educational narration, much like NPR.  Perfect.  A little high level, but fits with curriculum.  Then I searched "society & culture" (don't ask why, I was desperate!), and I found How the Alamo Works.  Good find!  Also fits with curriculum, so I have to throw in a lower-quality podcast to fit the assignment.  I'm done, this was a painful assignment, and I worked three times harder than before and I don't love the outcome.  The pains of education. . .
